I get lost and captivated in the expressive and passionate activity of painting. I like a raw energy to always be present in my work.

Clouds, the skies at night and reflections in water have always been a fascination.

For me painting is an organic process of improvisation. When I paint I search for something that holds my interest, evocative in both colour and texture.

Colour has always made my “soul sing”. I enjoy experimenting with the juxtaposition of colours, using often intense and vibrant pigments, mixing metallic and matt colours together. My painting is intuitive. I experiment with various techniques to shape the paint and create the relief and rich patterned surfaces I desire. I enjoy responding to the surprises which reveal themselves as I work and as the painting develops over a period of time, layer upon layer. Shapes within the composition change until I arrive at an abstract balance in composition and colour with its own “personality”.

My recent paintings are predominantly abstract cityscapes and landscapes, which I am sure have been influenced by my travels and the books I have read. I have a great admiration for the decorative paintings and reliefs found in Asia and Africa. The titles given are my own personal interpretation, but I like the viewer to bring their own ideas and thoughts to my work.
