Zoe Taylor

I am a contemporary landscape painter working from a small studio in Worcestershire.

Working from sketchy, blotchy, inky notes made in the field, my paintings tend not to be directly representational but a fusion of emotion and response to that place. These sketches will hold notes about shape and space, weather and wind, and light and dark.

As such, they are most definitely landscapes although sometimes there is more of an abstraction about them.

I work quickly with high pigment acrylics on heavyweight Fabriano paper with both painting knife and brush, trying to bring the immediacy and energy of my sketches to the finished paintings. Scratched marks are ever present in my work indicating felt or seen movement.
