John Ferdico

John was born in the Bronx, New York. During his formal training at the Art Students League he met Diane Leon - a fellow artist. In 1979 they married. Each year they travel to their apartment in Spain to paint and to exhibit.

John's work conveys his response to the images and history of archaic and prehistoric cultures. His dascination for the ancient world manifests itself by the juxtaposition of form, colour and space. Spain, music and film all influence his work.

He exhibits in New York City and Spain. His work is in a permanent collection at the Colegio Farmaceuticos de Alicante (Spain). In 2006 three paintings were chosen by the US Ambassador to Amman, Jordan; in 2002 he had three other works in the residency of the US Ambassador in Estonia as part of the Art in Embassies Programme, State Department of the United States. John's abstract works are in acrylic, oils and collage. He comments: " I use vestiges of the past as symbols to embody the continuum of the human spirit in a contemporary vision."
