Alison MacGregor Grimley
Alison studied Fine Art at Kent Institute of Art & Design, Canterbury where she won the Daler-Rowney Painting Prize in her graduation year.
The winter landscape is my starting point. This is the time of greatest clarity, texture and contrast.
I use a restricted palette of earth colours, accumulating layers of glaze to create the sense of “looking through” and translucency.
My influences include Tapies, Richter and, most importantly, Ian McKeever. Like McKeever, I adopt an empirical approach to my work, developing the painting as it proceeds, letting my thoughts follow their own path.
