'I choose art because image making has the power to violate boundaries. It can be in two places at once; inner and outer, personal and universal, real and imagined, located simultaneously in the present and the past. It also offers the possibility, like music, of an immediate synthesis of thought and emotion, of both a physical and felt space, blurring imposed divisions between what is seen and what is imagined, observed and remembered in a direct expression that can be both poetic and literal in the same instant.'
